There's a Seinfeld episode where Kramer is talking about moving to LA. When George incredulously asks him if he's actually going to do it, Kramer puts his index finger to his temple and says, "Up here, I'm already there."

After lots of reading and investigation, my mind is made up: I'm going to buy a Boxster. Up here, I've already bought it. Visited Dealer "N" to see what the story is on waiting lists, timelines, etc. Talked to "W". First he showed me a used silver/beige Boxster they had on consignment. Eh. No thanks. They want a refundable $3000 deposit to get on the waiting list. Once your name gets the top of the waiting list, you place your actual custom order. Says that the wait would probably be for a March/April order and a July/August build (says '99 model year). That implies a September/October delivery. (Although at one point he mentioned August delivery. Also, my understanding is that the model year starts AFTER the Porsche August shutdown, so it would seem to be a '98 unless he's masking a longer wait.) I need to do a little more checking on delivery before putting down the waiting list deposit.
