Brief scare on the 10 minute drive into the office today. I noticed that the coolant temperature gauge light was blinking. The temperature was normal so I drove a couple more minutes to make it to the office. I checked the manual and it says the blinking light means either a low coolant level, or a problem with the engine exhaust vent fan. Sure enough, the coolant level was bordering on the "MIN" indicator. Whew! I realize I am paranoid after the engine replacement. Just need to top it up with the mysterious Porsche official lifetime coolant substance, mixed 1 to 1 with water.
Got the magic stuff at the parts counter. As we all suspected, it is not a special Porsche-invented, Boxster-specific elixir. It's made by ELF. It comes in a little plastic resealable bottle. The label says:

Porsche part number: 000 043 203 78 1 Liter coolant ELF Glacelf Supra Anti-Freeze New generation 100% organic antifreeze. Long lasting maximum protection against frost, overheating and corrosion for your engine. For health and safety reasons this product has been treated with a bitterness additive to make it undrinkable. |
Here is Elf's page that gets near the lubricant info. However, I couldn't find any specific product information as I dug around a bit. http://www.elf-lub.fr/en/default.htm
