BoxsterFest V in Moss Beach (just north of Half Moon Bay, CA).
A fun if uneventful gathering. The body count was 80-ish. I believe there were 28 Boxsters, and probably at least 10 assorted 911 family cars (993's etc.). We schmoozed in the parking lot overlooking the Pacific Ocean for a while and then headed in for our lunch reservation, which featured food that was decent but not worth particular praise. As most of crowd was heading into the restaurant, I set up my tripod and took a series of photos to create a QuickTime VR movie (see below). After lunch we took a group photo, and then the caravan headed out, no plan discussed. Top down, I turned north onto Highway 1 to head home via San Francisco. After stopping for gas and getting back on the road, several Boxsters passed in the other direction, and I immediately encountered a complete halt in the traffic. After waiting several minutes, it was clear there was a serious jam of some kind. No room to pass or even see the problem, I made a u-turn and was able to get a peek at the long line of cars heading out of sight.
I was able to keep the top down even as it started to sprinkle by the time I got onto 280 from the 92 interchange. Little droplets appeared on the windshield, but the aerodynamics and speed kept them completely off the interior. Finally, near Millbrae, it was coming down just a little too hard to keep the interior dry, so I pulled off and put the top up for the rest of the drive home.
