Rained-Out SCCA Street School

SCCA Street School @ Thunderhill, NOT

I was signed up for the two-day street school, but the weather reports looked pretty bad. Rain forecasts throughout Saturday and Sunday. Prior experience was that rain can cause the class to be canceled. I checked the answering machine message at Thunderhill Friday evening before driving up. It said that the local agricultural forecast was for rain likely throughout Saturday, but that Sunday was definitely clear. We could call to reschedule Saturday if we wanted, but Sunday was still on.

Not wanting to deal with rain or a rain-out, I called to reschedule Saturday for a later date. I monitored the weather reports and called Thunderhill again late Saturday to decide what to do for Sunday. The message at Thunderhill was that the rain would end by Sunday morning and give way to clear weather. So I got packed up and set my alarm for 4:45 AM.

It rained very hard on the drive up. I got there on time at 7:15 AM and the weather was miserable. Cold, windy, and raining. There were plenty of people of there because of the positive weather reports. We met in the shop, and were told to go get our cars teched. Next we met back in the shop again and got the news: class canceled. They had us go out in follow-the-leader mode at low speed for four laps, and that was it.

Round trip time: 7 hours, all for nothing. It really sucked. The only consolation is that I now have a two-day credit for a later street school.
