How Not to Change Your Oil

I would advise against the following procedure:

  1. Buy nice big 15-quart oil container with wide drip catch basin.
  2. Raise car, roll underneath on creeper, loosen drain plug.
  3. Remove drain plug.
  4. Notice that oil level in drip catch basin is rising. Oil not draining into little container inlet hole fast enough.
  5. Look puzzled for a few seconds.
  6. Realize that it's going to overflow in a minute.
  7. Try to replace drain plug while oil is draining out.
  8. HOT OIL ON HAND!
  9. Notice oil level in drip catch basin is almost to top.
  10. Keep trying to replace hopelessly slippery drain plug.
  11. BURNING HOT OIL ON HAND!
  12. Watch drain plug slip out of hand and into catch basin.
  13. Look like a deer in the headlights.
  14. Watch oil start to overflow onto garage floor.
  15. Utter one curse word.
  16. Grab some paper towels, then realize that is waste of time.
  17. Drive wife's car to Kragen to buy some oil absorber.
  18. Finish oil change.
  19. Clean up garage floor.
